Around the Web

The market in the rain

On our return to the hospital, we were able to meet some short term people who have been volunteering here in various capacities.  It has been a joy to get to know them.

Danny Ryan, one of our current visitors, blogs at I Bless the Rain.  He has quite a few picture of the hospital, the town and surrounding area.  Be sure to check out his blog.

We also briefly overlapped with Erin Kirk, who was here with the team who built the playground.  She blogs at Going to the Sea, and shared some of her thoughts on her time in Impfondo:

At least seven people have died outside my door this week.
At Pioneer Christian Hospital in Impfondo, a town of about 100,000 people in the interior of the Republic of Congo, people die. I know this because the wailing echoes off the concrete buildings and ricochets throughout the campus.
This is in the way of things, I suppose.  {Read the rest here}

African fashions have become popular in some parts of the US this year.  Check out these pictures from Anthropologies Spring/Summer 2014 Collection.

I'm going to try to have a shirt like this
made by our tailor.  I'll post pictures of
the success or failure.
